Your Complete Pre-Trip Booking Checklist
Do these in order — each step unlocks the next. Leave one out and you’ll either pay more or go without.
- Step 1 — Book your accommodation first. Hotels on Expedia or villas on VRBO. The best properties sell out 3–12 months ahead in peak season (Dec–Apr). If you’re planning a New Year’s trip, book today.
- Step 2 — Book flights to Sint Maarten (SXM). Search all flight options here. Then book your inter-island connection (Winair or St. Barth Commuter, SXM → SBH) directly with the airline.
- Step 3 — Reserve your rental car immediately. Book here. Do not wait. The island has a small fleet and peak-season availability disappears weeks in advance.
- Step 4 — Book a day on the water. Browse charter and cruise options. This is consistently the highlight activity that most visitors wish they’d done more of. Reserve at least one day.
- Step 5 — Make restaurant reservations. The best restaurants (La Guérite, Bonito, Le Gaïac, Do Brazil) book out weeks ahead in high season. Email or call directly 2–4 weeks before your trip.
- Step 6 — Pack smart. Inter-island flights have a 10–15kg checked luggage limit. Soft-sided bags only. You can buy anything you forgot in Gustavia’s boutiques — often at duty-free prices.

What the Regulars Know
Groups of 3+ almost always save money in a villa vs. hotel rooms, and the experience is better.
The best restaurants serve the same food at lunch for half the dinner price. Do Brazil, La Guérite, Eden Rock — all better value at midday.
May is the island’s best-kept secret: excellent weather, 40–60% lower prices, empty beaches. Check May flights.
Colombier Beach is inaccessible by road. You need a boat charter or a 30-min hike. Don’t leave without going.
Duty-free perfume, wine, and spirits in Gustavia are 20–30% cheaper than mainland retail. Stock up before flying home.
Pack to 10–15kg. Inter-island planes have strict weight limits. Soft bags only. Everything else can be bought or shipped.
The 10-minute flight into SBH is one of the world’s most dramatic — steep descent over a hill, short runway. Enjoy it. It’s not dangerous, it’s just spectacular.
