Saint Jean Beach

Saint Jean Beach is the island’s most social beach — a curved bay with calm water in the western section (sheltered by the airport hill) and slightly more energetic water at the eastern end near Eden Rock. The beach is bisected visually by Eden Rock — the volcanic outcrop hotel that dominates the middle of the bay — creating two distinct sections with different characters. The western end hosts Nikki Beach, Gyp Sea, and Shellona beach clubs. The eastern end is quieter and more residential.

The Beach Clubs

Saint Jean is the beach club capital of the island. Nikki Beach Amazing Sunday (book weeks ahead in peak season) is the island’s most famous event. Gyp Sea is the most reliably fun on regular days. Shellona brings a Greek-themed aesthetic popular with European visitors. Eden Rock’s beach bar is accessible to non-guests and has the most dramatic setting — directly at the base of the rock hotel with the cliff rising above you.

Accommodation in Saint Jean

Eden Rock is the area’s flagship hotel — built on the rock above the beach, with rooms that have extraordinary views and a distinctive personality no other hotel matches. Check Eden Rock availability →

Hôtel Emeraude Plage sits directly on the beach — bungalow-style rooms, beachfront position, the island’s best-value true beachfront accommodation. Compare rates →

Villas in the Saint Jean hills above the bay offer sea views and pool terraces at prices generally lower than Lurin. Good selection for first-time visitors who want convenience alongside privacy. Browse Saint Jean villas →

Shopping and Dining Near Saint Jean

The Saint Jean commercial strip — along the main road near the airport — has a concentrated collection of boutiques, a well-stocked supermarket, and several restaurant options. This is the most walkable shopping area on the island. La Villa restaurant, several snack bars, and bakeries are all within the strip.

The Airport

Gustaf III Airport is at Saint Jean. The plane lands 200 metres from the beach — the approach over the hill is visible from the beach clubs. The sound of propeller planes is audible during the day but not disruptive at night (flights stop well before evening). For first arrivals, the airport’s proximity is a convenience rather than a negative — pick up your rental car and you’re at the beach in under 3 minutes.
